PDO THREADS

Want a Lift, But Not Facelift Surgery?

PDO thread treatments offer a minimally invasive approach to facial support, contour refinement and collagen stimulation, without traditional surgery.

At Medicosmetics, PDO threads are not treated as a one-size-fits-all procedure. Thread selection, placement, direction and treatment planning are guided by your individual facial anatomy, tissue quality, degree of laxity and desired outcome.

We offer both PDO cog threads and PDO mono threads, allowing treatment to be tailored according to whether the primary goal is structural support and lifting, collagen stimulation, or a combination of both.

Thread treatments are a particular area of focus at Medicosmetics, with an emphasis on considered placement, natural-looking outcomes and maintaining the individual characteristics of your face.

PDO COG THREADS.

Structural support and non-surgical lifting.

PDO cog threads are designed to provide mechanical support to areas of facial tissue affected by laxity or descent. Unlike smooth mono threads, cog threads contain small multidirectional barbs or cogs that engage with the tissue.

Once carefully positioned beneath the skin, they can provide support and reposition selected areas while also initiating a regenerative response around the thread.

Over time, the PDO material is gradually absorbed by the body. During this process, collagen formation around the treatment area may contribute to ongoing improvements in tissue quality and support.

Cog threads may be considered for areas including the:

  • Mid and lower face

  • Jawline and jowls

  • Cheeks

  • Lower facial contours

  • Selected areas of the neck

The objective is not to create an exaggerated or tightly "pulled" appearance.

Our approach is to restore support where it has been lost and refine facial contours while respecting your natural anatomy.

PDO MONO THREADS

Collagen stimulation, skin quality & structural refinement.

PDO mono threads are designed primarily to stimulate collagen production and improve the quality, firmness and support of the skin.

Unlike cog threads, mono threads are smooth threads and do not provide the same mechanical lifting or repositioning effect. Instead, they are strategically placed beneath the skin to create a supportive framework within areas where collagen loss, skin laxity or changes in texture have occurred.

As the PDO material gradually dissolves, it stimulates a regenerative response within the surrounding tissue, encouraging new collagen formation over time.

Mono threads may be considered for areas including the:

  • Lower face and jawline

  • Cheeks

  • Marionette area

  • Neck

  • Décolletage

  • Fine lines and areas of crepey skin

  • Areas showing early skin laxity

Results are generally progressive rather than immediate, with improvements developing as collagen remodelling occurs over the following weeks and months.

Mono threads are not intended to create a dramatic lift. Their role is to strengthen, support and improve the quality of the tissue, helping create firmer, smoother and more resilient skin.

For some patients, mono threads may be used alone. For others, they may form part of a broader treatment plan alongside cog threads, skin regenerative treatments or other modalities depending on the concern being treated.

Our approach is not based on placing the greatest number of threads. It is based on placing the right threads, in the right areas, for your individual anatomy and treatment goals.

COG Threads OR MONO THREADS ? They do different jobs.

This is one of the most important things to understand about PDO threads. Cog threads provide support and repositioning.

They are generally selected where tissue laxity, facial descent or loss of definition is the primary concern.

Mono threads stimulate collagen and strengthen the tissue.

They are generally selected where improving firmness, texture and skin quality is the priority.

For some patients, the best result may involve both. Cog threads can address structural support while mono threads are strategically placed to improve the quality of the surrounding tissue.

This is why we don't believe in selling PDO threads simply by quantity. The number of threads is not the treatment plan.

Your anatomy is.

OUR APPROACH TO THREAD LIFTING

A successful thread treatment begins well before the first thread is placed.

During your consultation, we assess the face as a whole, including facial proportions, tissue movement, skin quality, areas of volume change, vectors of facial descent and the strength of the tissue available to support a thread.

From there, we determine whether threads are appropriate and, importantly, whether they are actually the best treatment for what you are trying to achieve.

Not every patient seeking a "lift" is best treated with threads.

In some cases, improving skin quality or addressing another component of facial ageing first may produce a better outcome. In others, a combination of modalities may be recommended.

We would rather create the right treatment plan than simply perform the treatment you initially thought you needed.

WHAT CAN PDO THREADS ADDRESS?

PDO thread treatments may be considered where concerns include lower facial laxity, early jowling, reduced jawline definition, facial tissue descent, loss of support through the cheeks, skin laxity, fine lines, crepey skin and declining collagen quality.

Your suitability depends on your anatomy, skin and tissue quality, medical history, previous treatments and expectations.

WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT?

PDO thread treatments are designed to produce refinement rather than transformation.

With cog threads, some mechanical support may be visible following treatment, while changes associated with collagen stimulation develop progressively.

Mono thread results are generally more gradual because their primary purpose is collagen stimulation rather than mechanical lifting.

Results and longevity vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed. Your clinician will discuss realistic expectations based on your anatomy and proposed treatment plan during consultation.

DOWNTIME & RECOVERY

PDO threads involve treatment beneath the skin, so some recovery should be expected.

Depending on the type and extent of treatment, temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, tightness, puckering or irregularity at insertion points may occur. These effects generally settle as the tissue adjusts and heals.

Cog thread treatments typically involve more downtime than mono thread treatments.

You will receive detailed aftercare instructions following your procedure, including guidance around facial movement, exercise, sleeping position, skincare and other treatments during the initial healing period.

SAFETY & SUITABILITY

PDO thread treatment is not appropriate for everyone.

A comprehensive consultation is required before treatment to assess your medical history, medications, previous cosmetic procedures, facial anatomy, skin and tissue quality, and treatment expectations.

Potential risks, expected recovery, alternative treatment options and your individual treatment plan will be discussed before you decide whether to proceed.

WHY MEDICOSMETICS FOR PDO THREADS?

PDO threads are one of our signature treatment areas.

Thread lifting requires more than knowing how to insert a thread. Successful treatment depends on understanding facial anatomy, tissue behaviour, appropriate vectors, thread selection and, importantly, recognising when not to place a thread.

Our approach is deliberately individual.

We don't use a standard thread pattern for every face, and we don't believe that more threads automatically mean a better result.

We plan treatment around your anatomy, your tissue and the outcome we can realistically achieve, with a focus on natural facial support rather than changing the character of your face.
